Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi supporters are deserving their reward, with the team on the verge of winning our first CAF championship. Chiefs will face Egyptian heavyweights Al Ahly in the Caf Champions League final on July 17 at Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca..
The huge Nigerian goalkeeper believes their fans’ patience is going to be rewarded in a way they couldn’t have dreamed when they asked for an end to the Naturena side’s trophy drought in recent years. “I have to commend the supporters for their perseverance over the years. For a few years, they’ve been waiting for the team to bring them a trophy,” said Akpeyi.
“This time, we’re on the verge of doing it in a huge way. They’ve been waiting for it with bated breath. “I feel the time has arrived to end the curse and bring them a trophy that would bring them joy and smiles,” said Super Eagles goalkeeper. Akpeyi.
Akpeyi also revealed that winning the Champions League has been his own secret yearning. He lost out on winning it with Heartland FC of Nigeria back in 2009.
“Being in the Caf Champions League final, let alone winning it, is my greatest ambition in my career. And, as I previously stated, the Caf Champions League is Africa’s most prestigious tournament, with every player vying for a spot. I’m at a loss for words to describe how I’m feeling. Hopefully, we will be winning our first CAF championship,” Akpeyi concluded.

“It’s been a fascinating and thrilling experience. One of my professional goals was to play in and win the Champions League final. My last appearance in the final was with one of my previous teams in 2009,with negative CAF results, when we were defeated by TP Mazembe.
“I’ve always wanted to play in the championship game again and get positive CAF results I’ve tried with a variety of teams and we’ve all been eliminated early on. But, because to our hard work and determination, we’ve made it to the final once more. I am thankful for this opportunity.”
