Kaizer Chiefs have signed Njabulo Ngcobo, and the club is set to announce his arrival this week. Ngcobo’s representative, Siboniso “King” Ngubane, verified this to Phakaaathi, saying they agreed on a three-year deal.
“Yes, the deal is done. Ngcobo is now a Chiefs player. We agreed on a three year deal and everyone is happy. Swallows are happy, Chiefs are happy and we are happy,” said Ngubane.
Last season, Ngcobo demonstrated his defensive prowess at Swallows FC, as he established himself as a pillar at the back for the Dube Birds. His performances garnered him a DStv Premiership Defender of the Season nomination, as well as the interest of Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns. Last week Phakaaathi reported that Ngcobo was close to signing for Chiefs, though Sundowns were also in the picture. Ngubane confirmed that Sundowns had asked about Ngcobo.

“They were also curious. However, we have to consider the best deal for the athlete. We had to consider a number of factors, none of which had anything to do with money… To determine where he is most required, we looked at the number of goals both teams conceded last season.
“He is only banging on the doors of Bafana, and we need him to play consistent football in order for him to get a regular spot in Bafana. But that doesn’t rule out the possibility of making the Sundowns team. He can easily break into any team’s starting XI.
“However, we looked at a variety of factors, including the style of play and other factors. We chose to give the Chiefs first priority since they were a better fit for him. His heart was set on moving to Naturena, and we had to take that into account as well, because the player’s emotional and mental well-being is also important,” Ngubane explained.
