Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has slammed Goodman Mosele after the Orlando Pirates star failed to report for national team duty.
Broos’ plans for the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Ethiopia were disrupted over the weekend when midfielder Goodman Mosele failed to report to camp without providing reason for his absence.
The 21-year-old has since been replaced in the squad by SuperSport United’s Jesse Donn by the Belgian tactician, who has been left furious by the Buccaneers youngsters apparent decision to go AWOL.
“I am not disappointed, I am very angry,” Broos said on Monday evening. “I don’t understand how a player who [is in line to win] his first cap for the national team of his country doesn’t even come to the camp.
“He didn’t call us. We don’t know why he’s not coming. I can understand that, maybe, the player doesn’t want to play for Bafana Bafana, but then he should tell me that.
“I would have to respect that. Everybody is free to decide if he will play or not, but we didn’t hear anything from him. We tried to reach him, he is unreachable. So, I am very angry with such behaviour from a player who could be an international for his country.”
Mosele’s withdrawal from the squad comes just days before South Africa face Ethiopia in the first of two World Cup qualifiers, with the first match taking place on Saturday, 9 October in Ethiopia, and the return leg being played at the FNB Stadium three days later.
