Percy Tau appears to have been dropped from the Bafana Bafana squad for the forthcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers in 2022.
Hugo Broos’ initial 34-man provisional roster included Tau, although he is unlikely to participate in the forthcoming double-header against Ethiopia.
His club opted to reject the call up after Tau picked up an injury during the previous international break that has seen him sidelined and miss the Egyptian Super Cup.
This publication has learnt from sources in Egypt, that Al Ahly have sent a comprehensive report to SAFA to explain their decision.
Earlier this week a member of Al Ahly’s medical team confirmed that Tau’s injury is not too serious and he should join the team training next week.
South Africa, meanwhile, face Ethiopia on 9 and 12 October, meaning Tau could theoretically be fit for the double-header. However, it is not uncommon for clubs to refuse sending their players to national teams after they’ve just suffered injuries.
Broos will announce his final final 23-man squad for the upcoming qualifiers on Monday, 27 September.
