The Ventersdorp born 33-year-old Itumeleng Khune, who has conceded 10 goals in five DStv Premiership games this season, last played in Amakhosi’s 2-1 destruction to SuperSport United on 15 December a year ago.
Khune still to make his first appearance for Kaizer chiefs in 2021 and has not been part of the match-day squad for the side’s last six games in all competitions.
He has since been sidelined, with Daniel Akpeyi cementing his position as Hunt’s first-choice while Bruce Bvuma deputizes, and Hunt has now answered for the club’s longest-serving member’s omission.
“I thought Daniel was excellent today, I thought he was fantastic and he swept well. Long these lines, there’s a ton of competition and individuals need to endeavor to get back in the team,” said Hunt when asked about Khune’s whereabouts after Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Stellenbosch FC.
Another Chiefs veteran Willard Katsande has likewise been dropped from the team since his last appearance against Primeiro de Agosto in the CAF Champions League in December.
Hunt has since handed the captain’s armband to Ramahlwe Mphahlele and Bernard Parker, with Samir Nurkovic most recently leading the side this weekend.
