The midfielder’s current contract expires in June 2022, and Manchester United are in talks with his representation about a new agreement.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said Manchester United are still in talks with Paul Pogba over a new contract.
The Frenchman’s current contract expires in the summer of 2022, which means that if United fail to agree on fresh terms with him, he may go on a free transfer the following year.
Solskjaer is optimistic about continuing to work with the France international, although he admits that all parties are still negotiating an agreement.
After Manchester United lost 4-2 to Queens Park Rangers in their second pre-season friendly, Solskjaer was asked about Pogba’s future.
“Talks are underway between Paul’s representative and club representatives,” he stated. All of the conversations I’ve had with Paul have indicated that he is looking forward to the season.”
When asked if he wanted Paul to stay, he said, “There’s always talk about Paul and there’s always clubs interested and of course we’ve seen Paul at his best and Paul knows what we feel about it and I’ve liked my time working with him and maybe we can work together.”
That is the million-dollar question right now. United began negotiations with Pogba and his representatives some time ago, but there has been no progress toward the midfielder agreeing to fresh terms.
Mino Raiola, Pogba’s representative, stated last season that his client would not be signing a new deal at Old Trafford because he was searching for a fresh challenge away from the club.
Since then, Pogba and Solskjaer have put the transfer drama behind them, with the midfielder flourishing for both club and country, but with no agreement in place, speculation about his future has grown.
Paris Saint-Germain is one of the teams interested in acquiring Pogba, but United would not let him leave cheaply, and it is unknown whether the French club can pay the necessary amounts.
Aside from Pogba, Solskjaer was questioned about new Manchester United acquisition Jadon Sancho, and he revealed he will be seeing his new teammates for the first time in 10 days ahead of their last pre-season match against Everton.
“The English players and Fred, the ones who played Euros and Copa America and went all the way to the finals, needed a break as well, they’re back with us in about 10 days time,” Solskjaer said.
