Forward Kermit Erasmus has reflected on his second debut for Orlando Pirates on Saturday afternoon in the MTN8 semifinal.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns striker said this after coming on as a second-half substitute in the semifinal first-leg match.

The first-leg match took place at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, where the two teams settled for a goalless draw.

Pirates had a decent game and restricted the otherwise dominant force that is Sundowns to no shot on target.

Spanish coach Jose Riveiro got his tactics right as the Buccaneers stifled the league holders.

After the game, the former Sundowns forward described his appearance for the Buccaneers as special.

“Happy to be back on the field again. Thank you to all the fans that came out today, felt special making my debut back on my dad’s birthday. I’m humbled by the reception I received coming back home. Happy heavenly birthday, Daddy. ‘Once a Pirate, Always A Pirate,” he said.

Erasmus completed his reunion with the Buccaneers a fortnight ago after signing a two-year contract.

The former Bafana Bafana had spent two years at Sundowns but opted to leave due to limited game-time.

Sundowns said they reached a mutual agreement with Erasmus to release him from his contract.

Erasmus had a contract running up to next May with the multiple DStv Premiership champions Sundowns.

Erasmus played for the Buccaneers from 2013 to 2015 after signing from SuperSport United.

He then embarked on an adventure in Europe, with Rennes FC in the French Ligue 1 being his first destination in the year 2016.

Rennes dispatched Erasmus to Lens for a loan spell for the better part of his two-year contract that run its course in the year 2018.

The forward then moved to Portugal before completing the circle back to Cape Town City then Sundowns in 2020.
