Kaizer Chiefs have played two games without Khama Billiat, including the spirited 2-1 win over SuperSport United. The Zimbabwean’s replacement has been rather subtle.
So how did coach Arthur Zwane find a solution to replace Billiat? Instead of finding a direct replacement in the number 10 role, Zwane changed the formation.
Zwane first tried two number 8s, Siyethemba Sithebe and George Matlou, against Marumo Gallants, but none of the two brightened up Amkahosi’s attack
Up next was the visit of SuperSport United to Soccer City. Zwane picked Njabulo Blom in the defensive midfield and it worked like a charm.
Ahead of Blom were Sithebe and Yusuf Maart. Up front saw an attacking line without a number 10 as a direct Billiat replacement. Instead, Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana was the lone striker, while Ashley Du Preez and Kgaogelo Sekgota took the flanks.
Will Zwane continue with the same solution this weekend against AmaZulu and even when Biliat is fit again? We shall see.
