Petersen was never seriously tested as he was well-protected by his defence. He was substituted at half-time.
Reeve Frosler – 6.5/10
Worked hard on the right flank.
Frosler took up advanced positions high up the pitch, but failed to make a significant impact in the first half. However, he had a decent game overall.
Edmilson Dove – 7.5/10
Solid display by the Mozambican star.
Dove was a tireless runner down the right wing who helped the team by providing the necessary width and he was never seriously tested defensively.
Siyabonga Ngezana – 6/10
An improved performance.
Ngezana played well on his return to the starting line-up – making well-timed interceptions and clearances while also being comfortable on the ball.
Erick Mathoho – 6/10
Neutralised Samir Nurkovic.
Mathoho was able to keep his former teammate quiet – winning their ground and aerial duels. He was substituted after the restart.
Phathutshezo Nange – 5.5/10
Tried too hard to impress.
Nange operated as a defensive midfielder and he was aggressive at times which led to his booking. However, he did play some accurate passes.
Cole Alexander – 5/10
Couldn’t impress after being handed a rare start.
Alexander failed to impose himself on the match and take control as he would have liked. He was substituted after the restart.
Nkosingiphile Ngcobo – 5.5/10
Tried to make things happen for Chiefs.
Ngcobo put in a good, energetic performance – combing well with his teammates. However, he couldn’t create meaningful chances for his teammates.
Happy Mashiane – 5.5/10
Operated on the left side of the attack.
Mashiane took up unusual positions as Chiefs did well to press Royal AM back into their own half, but he didn’t pose a threat to the opposition when in possession of the ball.
Keagan Dolly – 7.5/10
Chiefs’ best attacker on the day.
Dolly looked sharp and eager to make runs behind Royal AM’s defence. He scored a wonderful goal from a free-kick.
Wandile Duba – 5.5/10
Full of running in his first match for the first team.
However, the Royal defence ensured that he enter their box with the ball and chances did fall for him during his time on the pitch.
Njabulo Ngcobo – 6/10
Replaced Mathoho and he looked solid in defence – making well-timed tackles and positioning himself well to make clearances or interceptions.
Bruce Bvuma – 5/10
Looked shaky between the sticks after coming on at half-time and he was easily beaten by Gamildien.
Austin Dube – 4.5/10
His marking and positioning were poor after being introduced after the hour-mark and he was to blame when Gamildien scored.
Samkelo Zwane – 7/10
Stamped his authority in midfield after coming on a few minutes into the second half and his goal-bound shot was handled by Gamildien and Dolly scored from the resultant set-piece.
Kamohelo Mahlatsi, Sabelo Radebe and Thabo Mokoena – N/A
Too late to warrant a rating as they came on very late.
