Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye has hailed Orlando Pirates’ signing of Kermit Erasmus and suggested even Bafana Bafana could benefit from the move.

Erasmus, 32, re-joined the Buccaneers in a shock Deadline Day move after his contract with Mamelodi Sundowns had been terminated.

Romeo, as he’s affectionally known, returned to Orlando Stadium for the first time since leaving the club for an overseas move in 2016, which excited iDiskiTV analyst Khanye.

“Erasmus is a replacement for Gabadinho Mhango,” he told iDiski Times.

Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye has hailed Orlando Pirates’ signing of Kermit Erasmus and suggested even Bafana Bafana could benefit from the move.

“Not a like-for-like replacement, they have different qualities but they let a forward go in Mhango and signed Erasmus.

“I didn’t see it coming. Pirates let Kermit go, he went overseas. He didn’t just leave to join a PSL team.”

“I never saw it coming because when he returned to South Africa, he didn’t rejoin Pirates and I didn’t think he’d do it now.”

“I have to give a round of applause to Pirates’ technical team.”

Khanye insists Erasmus has similar qualities to Brazil legend Romario and could even return to the South African national team.

“I think even the national team could benefit because of his qualities,” he added.

“I’m not sure why he wasn’t playing at Sundowns, because of politics, not because of a lack of quality and stuff. He can play anywhere in the world, he’s got balance, he’s skilful.

“He reminds me of Romario, the Brazilian Romario, No.11. Very dynamic, explosive, can kick with both feet, create space for himself.”
