Kaizer Chiefs striker Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana says he dreamed of playing for the club because of his former national team captain Valery Nahayo.

Nahayo played for Chiefs during 2008 and 2011 before earning a move to Europe with Belgian side Gent for three years, where he established himself as a key player.

Widely considered one of Burundi’s finest exports, Nahayo became a role model for many aspiring footballers in the country, which Bimenyimana attested to.

“Everywhere I have played, in Europe or Africa, I have been at the top club in that country but I feel that here in South Africa people love football more.”

“They live it. It’s something special for them,” he told the club’s official website.

“I knew of Kaizer Chiefs before. It was my dream to play here because you had Valery Nahayo, the defender, who was captain of our national team so when, at training, I saw videos of him at Chiefs I said I want to go play in those full stadiums.”

Bimenyimana made his debut from the bench in the 0-0 draw with AmaZulu at FNB Stadium last week and will now be aiming to break into the starting eleven under coach Arthur Zwane.
