Since making his Chiefs debut in a league win over Maritzburg United in March 2019, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo has shown that he will play a key role in midfield management. This season, the 21-year-old midfield wizard has started to live up to his billing, making 34 appearances for Chiefs in all competitions and scoring four goals. The goal for the young midfield dynamo is to keep improving, and he’s excited to help his team climb the league standings when they play TTM away from home in a DStv Premiership match on Tuesday at 17h00.
Though he was not present for the Chiefs’ recent win over Mamelodi Sundowns, he did return for the 1-0 home loss to Chippa United on Wednesday. As he made his 22nd league appearance of the season against the Chilli Boys, he was dissatisfied with the way things had gone. “I was unable to attend the game against Sundowns, but I believe we performed admirably as a squad. We played with faith and executed the game plan correctly, resulting in three points. I returned to play against Chippa United, but things did not go our way, and we lost.”
Chiefs should have scored the most points against Chippa, according to Ngcobo, but were left to wonder what should have been. I believe we should have scored in the first thirty minutes, he said, reflecting on the Chippa loss. We must concentrate on our upcoming match against TTM; it will not be easy, but we are prepared, and we must go there and win as many points as possible.
Ngcobo’s breakthrough season came in 2020-21, after he was only used sparingly in 2018-19 and 2019-20. Although Amakhosi has had a difficult campaign, Ngcobo wants to see the team capitalize on the campaign’s positive aspects.
“As the league comes to a close, it hasn’t been a perfect season for us as a team,” he said, “but there are a lot of things we can draw on as a team.” We’ve had a lot of ups and downs this season, but we’ve done well in the Champions League.
We set some competition records, and all we have to do now is keep our heads up and end the 2020-21 season in a better position.”
