It has been alleged that Goodman Mosele thought he could quickly go home to do some traditional rituals that he owed to his ancestors, before joining Bafana Bafana on camp.
source says Mosele had wanted to finish his duties for some time now, but had been held up. He felt he could quickly go home and then make it to the Bafana camp.
“He thought he could do it quickly and no one would have noticed because he would be back in no time. But the coach then made it public and the issue was blown out of proportion,” a source told.
“You know how these traditional things go, he felt he could not go so far without honouring it. There was a fear that something bad might happen. The mistake he made was not to notify the Bafana management that he would be a day or late in reporting for camp.”
Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos lashed out at Mosele this week after he failed to report for international duty ahead of the back-to-back Fifa World Cup qualifiers against Ethiopia.
Mosele was subsequently replaced in the squad by SuperSport United midfielder Jesse Donn. The Mgosi Squad has also reported that the Orlando Pirates midfielder could now be banned by the South African Football Association from selection in the future.
If Mosele did go home for rituals, it remains to be seen if that reason will be good enough to convince Bafana coach Hugo Broos to be a ‘Goodman’ and let the 21 year old wear the national team jersey in future.
