Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter has made a plea to the club’s fans that they need to give him more time to re-build a winning team.

Amakhosi are in the midst of their seventh season without silverware since Baxter left after his first stint, having last won the league and MTN8 between 2012 and 2015.

The Englishman has only collected six points in six games so far in the DStv Premiership and missed out of the MTN8 cup after they were knocked out in the quarterfinals by Mamelodi Sundowns.

Baxter, though, has insisted that there enough positive signs at Naturena for the club’s faithful to remain optimistic.

“I hope the supporters stick with us and they understand the journey that we are on,” he told the club’s media department.

“I think there is enough happening to encourage us to believe this could be very good if we can just shift that ten percent.”

Baxter also insisted that he is trying to build a team for a successful period and doesn’t just want to lift one trophy, but it will take time and patience from fans.

“In the bigger picture, the supporters are always interested in results now. That has been going on for eight seasons now, everybody wants it,” he added.

“What we’re trying to do, we’re trying to say let’s peel back the desire and the dreams and the hopes on social media and of our supporters.

“What we’re trying to do, we’re trying to say let’s peel back the desire and the dreams and the hopes on social media and of our supporters.

“Let’s pull back and find the strategy that will not just give us one cup now, but that will set us up at the top again for a longer period of time. That sometimes takes a little bit longer and in today’s football people want to avoid waiting.

“I would say to the supporters, be a little bit patient, enjoy what we can provide right now. Just know that when we arrive, we’re not arriving to stay for five minutes.

“When we arrive with the team, and we have the strategy and culture back with the club, then we will be staying around for a long, long time.
