Kaizer Chiefs had a chance to sign Victor Letsoalo while he was at Bloemfontein Celtic but they changed their mind as soon as Stuart Baxter arrived.
Baxter’s decision, and perhaps not his alone, is starting to backfire as Chiefs look very thin upfront at the moment.
When the idea of bringing in Letsoalo was crushed, Chiefs thought they could rely on Samir Nurkovic and Leonardo Castro.
Even Lazarous Kambole, the man who has scored a single goal 41 appearances for Chiefs was almost released as he was transfer-listed.
But the two trusted strikers are currently injured, and could be sidelined for months, meaning Chiefs will have to play without a natural striker for a while.
The technical team have seemingly turned to Kambole, but he could only be afforded four minutes as Chiefs played to a goalless draw with Marumo Gallants on Sunday.
However, there is little that Amakhosi fans can expect from Kambole – after all, the club showed that they had lost faith in him when they transfer-listed him.
And this leaves them with no option but to utilize players such as Khama Billiat and Lebogang Manyama high up the field.
So far, Letsoalo has proven how lethal he is, and the fact that he scored twice against against Chiefs in that 4-1 thumping by Royal AM, was evident enough.
Overall, Letsoalo has already netted four goals in three appearances for Royal AM so far, and when Chiefs look back, they certainly regret rejecting the Bafana Bafana international.
The fact that Chiefs have managed to score just three goals in five league games while they have conceded seven goals is making matters worse for Baxter and his technical team.
But one thing is for sure, Baxter has to find solutions to Amakhosi’s problems, and that needs to happen very fast.
