Goal runs the rule over the individual performances of the Amakhosi players after the Soweto giants’ 0-0 draw with Mallumo gallants on Sunday.
Daniel Akpeyi – 7/10
Gallants kept him busy upon his return to the starting lineup.
Akpeyi was up to the task, making a spectacular point-blank save to deflect a glancing header from Thabo Mnyamane.
Reeve Frosler – 7/10
With a strong effort in his first outing of the season, he marked his first appearance of the season.
Frosler made many runs along the right wing while also coming up big defensively against Celimpilo Ngema.
Sifiso Hlanti – 4/10
Katlego Otladisa, who harassed him throughout the game, was difficult to restrain.
Hlanti received two unwarranted yellow cards for fouling Otladisa, and he was rightly sent off at a time when Chiefs were leading.
Erick Mathoho – 7/10
The veteran center back put up a better performance.
Mathoho read the game superbly and was always in the ideal position to make a tackle or clearance.
Also came close to grabbing a late winner after connecting Bernard Parker’s set-piece.
Njabulo Blom – 6/10
In his natural position as a center midfielder, he looked good.
Blom battled hard for the ball and controlled the space behind Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, who was free to surge forward.
Cole Alexander – 6/10
Miguel Timm was sloppy and roughed up a couple times.
Alexander, on the other hand, had a good game, as he did well to move the ball from midfield to attack when the Chiefs couldn’t produce clear-cut chances.
Nkosingiphile Ngcobo – 5/10
Tried too hard to impress after being handed his first start of the season.
Ngcobo did pass the ball around well and he also ran his socks off, but his overall impact was minimal.
Keagan Dolly – 5/10
Nowhere near his usual self.
Dolly was actively involved in the proceedings without ever conjuring anything meaningful, with Lehlohonolo Nonyane and Ayanda Nkilil doing a good job to keep him quiet.
Khama Billiat – 6/10
At the core of everything positive that has resulted from the Chiefs’ onslaught.
Billiat showed a lot of enthusiasm to get involved in the game, and he blasted the Chiefs’ first shot on goal, but opportunities in the box didn’t fall for him.
Lebogang Manyama – 4/10
A failed experiment with Manyama operating as a false number nine.
Manyama struggled to become the focal point in the attack and he was peripheral in terms of involvement which led to his withdrawal at half-time.
Bernard Parker – 6/10
After replacing Manyama, he showed some creativity by combining effectively with his teammates in the final third and delivering well from set-pieces.
