Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino could have another Lionel Messi headache on his hands just days after the 34-year-old seemed unhappy with his countryman.
FC Barcelona’s record goalscorer has not had a perfect start to life at the Parisian club as he remains goalless after three appearances for his new team.
In addition to not finding the net, Messi was also pictured looking visibly annoyed after being substituted off during PSG’s 2-1 win over Olympique Lyonnais on Sunday night, and even appeared to snub a handshake from his manager as he exited the pitch.
According to L’Equipe, it was suggested that the 2021 Copa America winner could be set to spend some time on the sidelines after sustaining a knock to his knee during the match on the weekend.
In that tie against title challengers Lyon, the six-time Ballon d’Or winner was reportedly seen rubbing his knee and trying to walk off some pain, but then proceeded to signal to the bench that he was fine to continue, which could explain why he seemed annoyed when he was substituted after all.
The Argentina talisman was said to have spent Monday’s training session with the club’s medical staff close by, and received treatment from them too.
The club has now confirmed that Messi did indeed sustain a knock in that match, writing in a statement on their official website on Tuesday afternoon (translated from French): “Lionel Messi, following the blow received on his left knee, had an MRI this morning which confirms the signs of bone contusion, a new point will be performed in 48 hours.”
