Stuart Baxter has revealed that Nkosingiphile Ngcobo went through a “flat period” where he didn’t train with the right intensity but is now putting pressure on the senior players in the squad.
‘Mshini’ as he is affectionally known has featured in 40 games last season for Amakhosi and was one of the standout players during their run to the CAF Champions League final despite his young age.
However, the 21-year-old has had two short appearances of the bench under Baxter so far, leaving fans questioning why he is not playing more.
Baxter explained that Ngcobo did go through small dip in form but is now very close to playing for his side.
“If I was a fan, those would be the questions I’d be asking the coach. All I can is that Mshini has been doing really, really well over the last two weeks,” he told local media during a press conference
“He went through a little period of being a bit flat, not playing with the right intensity, not playing with the right desire.
“If you are a talented lad, that doesn’t give you a place in the team. Now he is really starting to fire to put pressure on the players that at the moment are ahead of him.
“I’m really pleased with the way Mshini is working.”
Ngcobo made 40 appearances for Chiefs last season, scoring four goals and setting up another two.
