Offensive midfielder for Kaizer Chiefs has returned to training as he works his way back to full health following a knee injury.
The midfielder who will turn 31 next week, was injured at the close of the 2020/21 season and missed the CAF Champions League final against Al Ahly.
The 2016/17 PSL Footballer of the Year ended last season’s DStv Premiership season as Amakhosi’s best scorer, scoring seven goals – and eight in total – in 38 outings across all tournaments.
Manyama told iDiski Times, “I’ve been back training on the side, obviously, with the physio, since I couldn’t really go into contact, because it’s also a mental thing to go back and get dug in with the boys.”
“So I’m just moving in gradually; there are reasons why I’ve been there as an additional man for the previous two weeks. But I had a full session yesterday, and I’m still in agony.
“But we’ve got a few weeks now, to try and get myself a fitness that was a bit higher and see where my strength is also.”
Kaizer Chiefs have made an indifferent start to the current season under new coach Stuart Baxter.
They lost in the opening round of the MTN8, going down on penalties to Mamelodi Sundowns.
They were subsequently kept to a goalless draw by TS Galaxy in their first DStv Premiership match before beating Baroka FC 2-1.
