Former Kaizer Chiefs attacking midfielder Abia Nale has called for caution on fans’ because expectations are too high on Khama Billiat and Keagan Dolly.
Billiat look boosted playing along Dolly, reconnecting old memories for their time at Ajax Cape Town and Mamelodi Sundowns.
Last season came with a number of criticism from a section of the club’s supporters.
“I can understand the excitement from the Chiefs fans about Khama and Keagan because I also played with both of them at Ajax,”
“However, I don’t think it is going to be as easy as we think it will be just because of the games that they have already played together.
“The excitement will be there because they are now together again considering that they already have an understanding from Ajax and Sundowns.
“However, what needs to be known is that their understanding is not just based on the two of them but the functionality of the team.
“We cannot expect miracles from the two of them in isolation but in terms of their understanding from the past, there needs to be other people in the picture to be involved who will need to understand them for what they are.
Nale added that he expected an improvement from Billiat after a bad season.
“Once they are both injury-free, I see them doing all the right things for the team, considering their development, they are players that won’t crack under pressure.
“The whole set-up at the team needs to accommodate them so that they can be free to play the way they know best. Based on their development and the experience from where they have played, they will be able to handle the expectations.
“That understanding from them comes from knowing that they share the responsibilities as a team. Also, if a new person comes in to lead the dressing room after a difficult season it offloads the burden on your shoulders as a player.
“I think he was trying too hard last season but then in the games that he has now played so far, he has done well. Last season the injuries came because he was trying too hard to be above everyone,”concluded Nale.
He scored two goals last season throughout the whole season.Keagan Dolly didn’t have a wonderful campaign overseas.
