South African fans are not happy with Tau’s move to Al Ahly.Questions are being asked with no nobody to answer.
Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye has questioned Percy Tau’s decision to leave Brighton and Hove Albion.
Khanye admitted that Tau’s move to Al Ahly was a downgrade.
Brighton and Hove Albion on Thursday announced the Percy Tau joining Egyptian League as he reunites with former coach Pitso Mosimane at Al Ahly.
“I know coach Pitso Mosimane believes in him and is the one who brought the best out in him.
“But remember, Percy had already graduated, and to me, he cannot go backwards. I’m sure there’s a lot he has also learned as he featured in one of the top leagues in the world.
“For me, I’m very disappointed with the boy,”
“He’s learning a lot of things, and him being in the Premier League was beneficial for South Africa and to him as well individually.
He is at the right age as well, and I mean, he’s the only South African who was playing in this top league. I understand it was him and his agent who asked for a move.
Khanye added that he would have prefered to have seen Tau move to another European team than return to Africa.
“Percy Tau is supposed to stay there in Europe. Al Ahly is playing in an African league, which means he is going backwards,” Khanye added.
“He should have gone to another European league in France or Belgium for a loan, as those are leagues that are not so strong as the Premiership. Or he should have just stayed at Brighton for another season.
“He did very well in pre-season. I’m sure he was going to get game time this season. But in going to Al Ahly, what if the team turns against the coach? What is Percy going to do then?
“You just cannot drop backwards at the peak of your career.
“Let’s also say if results were to not go well for the coach, Egyptians can be unforgiving. What’s will happen to Percy then?
“He should have stayed in Europe and follow the example set by the likes of Benni McCarthy and Steven Pienaar.”
Percy is joining Egyptian jiants for 2021/2022 encounter. Many South African fans are not happy with his move and do not hide that.Although he’ll be playing at FIFA CLUB WORLD CUP but the questions remain.
