Former defender Rodney ‘Danger’ Thobejane think new signing Njabulo Ngcobo needs to be a starter for Kaizer Chiefs.
Ngcobo was on the bench in a game against Mamelodi Sundowns in the and then against TS Galaxy.
Returning head coach been using a defensive partnership of Mulomowandau Mathoho and Daniel Cardoso.
“Ngcobo is a young quality defender who was bought so should already be the first-choice partnered by someone who is experienced,” Thobejane said
“I prefer Ngcobo and Mathoho. With regards to the Dube , he has the qualities, but I feel he still needs to learn under the other guys.
“With Ngcobo in as much as he is young, I feel he is mature enough and a great defender. I believe if they can pair him with Mathoho then Chiefs will have the best partnership. Mathoho and Cardoso as partners need someone who can work with their minds because they are psychologically wounded. When you are mentally injured like these two you cannot be both played.
“Let one of them play and that is why I say I prefer Mathoho with Ngcobo. Not to say Cardoso is weak but that partnership of him with Mathoho should be rested because we have seen enough of it.
“I have seen Ngcobo playing, and I feel he should play seeing that he is also in the national team. Mathoho must also stand up as well as an experienced defender when playing. In as much as Mathoho is mentally injured he must let what happened last season and be left there and work on a new page and make sure that he gives his best,”
Thobejane adding that Itumeleng Khune should play because of his experience
“Khune needs the support and reminder that he is a great keeper. Khune can still play and needs to be given the chance instead of being in and out of the team.
“He needs the opportunity plus support when he plays because without the support you end up making mistakes because you are playing with fear,” added Thobejane.
“Khune needs the support and reminder that he is a great keeper. Khune can still play and needs to be given the chance instead of being in and out of the team.
Khune played against Sundowns but was then dropped for the game against TS Galaxy with Bruce Bvuma selected ahead of Brandon Petersen and Daniel Akpeyi.
