Kaizer Chiefs‘ chances of bringing in Romanian striker Daniel Popa have reportedly diminished with Tanzania giants Simba SC leading the race.
Popa will be joining Simba after an undisclosed transfer fee was agreed with his current club AFC Chindia Targoviste.
The publication reports that Popa was initially offered to Chiefs but the Soweto giants dragged their feet as they still have Samir Nurkovic.
Bobby Motaung reportedly also discussed Popa but revealed that chances of him joining Chiefs would depend on the future of Nurkovic.
And the delay in Kaizer Chiefs making up their mind regarding Popa has seen Simba move swiftly to acquire his services.
Simba’s decision to go for Popa is solely because they want to replace Luis Miquissone, who is leaving them for Al Ahly.
Kaizer Chiefs are also under immense pressure to sign a striker given the uncertainty around Samir Nurkovic’s future.
And that coupled with Leonardo Castro’s long-term injury means the news of Popa joining Simba is a massive blow.
Popa, 26, will reportedly earn around R3 million per year at Simba, and there is no doubt that Chiefs would have afforded to pay him the salary.
