There has been yet another update with regards to Supersport United midfielder Sipho Mbule’s prospective move to Kaizer Chiefs.

Chiefs were said to have tabled a proposal to Supersport for the services of Mbule. Last week with the play himself was reportedly keen on the switch.

Mbule has been the subject of some keen interest from Chiefs. He has been mooted as their priority transfer target since the start of the previous campaign. It was thought that the club was hoping to use his signing as a statement of intent ahead of a transfer window that signals a new era at the club. One that it’s faithful have been crying out for, for years now.

CHIEFS HAVE BEEN FACING COMPETITION FROM SUNDOWNS FOR MBULE

Mbule saga has been far from straightforward up till now. Chiefs were reportedly not alone in their pursuit of the mercurial midfielder. Supersport’s crosstown rivals Mamelodi Sundowns were believed to have made their presence felt after joining the race. They had even been thought to have beaten Chiefs to his signature on two occasions.

Ultimately set the record straight on his official Instagram account. Him claiming that it wasn’t true that he had signed for Sundowns when a fan asked Mbule.

SUPERSPORT WOULD RATHER SELL HIM OVERSEAS

It has since become no secret that both Supersport and his agent would like to see Mbule prioritise a move abroad, rather than see the skillful junior international remain in the country and sign for either Chiefs or Sundowns. In fact, both his camp and the club were hoping that he would be to go play for South Africa u23 at the Olympic Games, where the expectation was for him to attract the eyes of some overseas scouts.

However, that did not materialise as Mbule ended up headlining a list of five withdrawals from the team citing “medical reasons”.  That may have proven to be a boost to the local sides with Chiefs looking like they have used the opportunity the most. According to a source speaking to The Citizen, the deal is still looking likely despite some recent hiccups.

LATEST UPDATE ON MBULE TO CHIEFS

“There are a few things that need to be sorted out but the deal looks very likely at the moment. But you know how these things work. It could also collapse at any moment if those involved cannot reach decisions amicably. But from what I hear, there are very few details that need to be finalised before they can seal it and make an announcement,” said a source.

Chiefs have already boosted their midfield with the likes of Phathutshedzo Nange, Cole Alexander and the returning Given Thibedi. That hasn’t stopped them from being linked to the likes of Mbule, Teboho Mokoena, Thabo Nodada and Seth Perusnath. Who else will join the Amakhosi?
