Mamelodi Sundowns has parted ways with one of its major characters and must now search for a successor in the market.
The left-footed player has made over 100 appearances for Sundowns since joining the club from Brazilian outfit Atlético Monte Azul in July 2016.
Nascimento has won five major trophies with Masandawana and he is a goalscoring defender having netted 12 goals, most coming from the penalty spot.
Ricardo Nascimento has spent the last two months in his home Brazil recovering from an injury sustained at the end of the previous season — and he will not be returning, according to Siya sources!
The 34-year-old joined Sundowns six years ago and has been a key member of the squad, winning four league titles in that time, three under then-coach Pitso Mosimane and one under co-coaches Manqoba Mngqithi and Rulani Mokwena.
It is not the first time Nascimento has had to heal in Brazil, having spent some time in his native nation in 2019 due to a hip ailment.
He was not recorded as a member of the squad at the time, but he did return to Chloorkop when he was completely healthy again, however Siya sources have informed the crew that his contract would be cancelled by mutual consent this time.
According to Siya insiders, this compels Downs to seek for a successor, and it now remains to be seen who the technical team will identify as a prospective new recruit
