According to the Kosi Bay News, Sipho Mbule’s move to Kaizer Chiefs is imminent, and the player is eager to join Amakhosi.
Chiefs were searching for a dynamic attacking midfielder and had their sights set on Khanyisa Mayo. Chiefs were beaten to his signature by Cape Town City and have now refocused their attention on Mbule.
“Sipho, like any other athlete, aspires to play for a major team. Chiefs have made a request for Mbule, and the board, under by CEO Stanley Matthews, is reviewing the proposal. If the money is right, he’ll depart, and the team will utilize the money to bring in a big name,” a SuperSport insider said.
Mbule and his midfield partner Teboho Mokoena are both expected to depart SuperSport during the current transfer window. Mokoena is more likely to go overseas, with the expectation that he would command bids after the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
“His primary ambition is to go overseas,” Mokoena’s agent Glyn Binkin told our sources at the start of July.
“There has been a lot of interest locally, and we have spoken with SuperSport; there is great interest (in SA), but at the end of the day, his desire is to play abroad.” It is becoming increasingly tough (for an SA player to move abroad). But I believe SuperSport are the sort of club that would prefer it if he could move overseas, even if it meant wasting money. Because he is an unknown entity in Europe and would have to prove himself, they are more likely to receive more money locally.”
Mokoena’s spectacular goal in South Africa’s 4-3 loss to France at Tokyo 2020 on Sunday cannot have hurt his prospects. The squad is expected to just play one more encounter at the competition, against Mexico on Wednesday. The team on the verge of exiting in the group stages.
Sipho Mbule was also a member of David Notoane’s first Tokyo 2020 team. Sipho Mbule had to withdraw late in the day due to medical concerns.
