According to recent reports, Manchester United are “closer than ever” to sign French defender, Raphael Varane, from Real Madrid.

The 28-year-old French international has a year left on his contract and has his heart’s desire elsewhere, away from the Bernabéu. The player wants to leave the Spanish capital in search of fresh challenges.

Los Blancos have realized that they risk losing him for free next summer with him able to talk to other clubs and agree to pre-agreements when he has six months left on his expiring deal.

A week ago, Samkelo Mtshaka, The Kosi Bay News Sport Journalist reported that Varane was about move to England from Spain.

Reports further suggest Real Madrid are ready to accept a Man United offer, however, they are yet to receive one from the Premier League outfit, with the two parties locked in negotiations.

Real Madrid have tabled only one contract extension offer to Raphael Varane, Goal has learned , with the Blancos now accepting that the French defender is likely to move on as they wait on an offer from Manchester United.

Mohamed Bouhafsi has hinted that a prospective transfer deal might be completed quickly. Manchester United and Raphael Varane, he claims, are almost to an agreement on his contract.

🔴 Agreement almost contractually reached between #Manchester United and Raphaël #Varane . Discussions are advanced between the 2 parties. After buckling Sancho, Man United want #Varane . Discussions are open between Manchester and Real Madrid but no offer yet.

What is the reason for Raphael Varane’s potential departure

Some news outlets reported that “money” is the factor behind Raphael Varane’s touted move away from Santiago Bernabeu. Although other reports state it is the ambition and the project at Old Trafford that has attracted the central defender to make the move to England.

If Varane departs this summer, Florentino Perez will have enormous gaps to plug in the defense as Sergio Ramos has already joined Paris St Germain on a free transfer. Furthermore, the Spanish club is said to be building funds to help aid their Mbappe project.

On the other hand, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have made two marquee signings in the same transfer window. They have already signed Jadon Sancho. Raphael Varane might fill the missing piece in the jigsaw puzzle at Old Trafford.
