Chiefs closing in on next signing

Cole Alexander has confirmed his exit from Odisha amid links with a return to South Africa with Kaizer Chiefs.
“It is with sadness, but so much gratitude, that I can announce, that I will not be returning to India for a second season. This decision was not an easy one, but one that had my family’s well-being at its core,” he wrote on social media.

Alexander who turned 32 this month spent one season with the Indian Super League side after Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter lured him to the club following his status sale of Bidvest Wits.

TheKosiBay understands the player has agreed a deal in principle but has yet to officially sign a contract with the Soweto giants with Baxter keen to reunite with the midfielder who he also coached during his time with SuperSport United.

The South Africa international midfielder impressed during his stay, becoming a clear fan-favorite with several industrious displays but with the Covid-19 travel restrictions, he’s now opted to terminate his contract.

Alexander reached an agreement over an undisclosed release fee with the club to end his stay and his next move will likely take him to Naturena.

TheKosiBay understands the player has agreed a deal in principle but has yet to officially sign a contract with the Soweto giants with Baxter keen to reunite with the midfielder who he also coached during his time with SuperSport United.

“It is with sadness, but so much gratitude, that I can announce, that I will not be returning to India for a second season. This decision was not an easy one, but one that had my family’s well-being at its core,” he wrote on social media.

“I would like to thank the entire Odisha family. To the management and coaching staff, thank you for your support, and taking care of me during my time in India.”

The club’s president Raj Athwal admitted his exit is a big blow but left the door open for a potential return where he was made a rotational captain: “On behalf of Odisha Football Club, I would like to thank Cole for his contributions last season.

“A popular figure amongst the players, staff and supporters we wish him and his family all the best and hope to one day see him back in an Odisha jersey.”
