Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane has suggested that the decision to let Stuart Baxter sit on the bench for Kaizer Chiefs might have been wrong.
Baxter sat on the technical team bench for the first time in Saturday’s Champions League final against the Red Devils.
He had missed the two-legged semi-final against Wydad Casablanca due to unissued work permit, and in his absence. Arthur Zwane and Dillon Sheppard led the team.
And while Mosimane didn’t take for granted the work done by Baxter in the background. He feels Zwane and Sheppard should have been allowed to finish what they had already started.
The duo were unbeaten in four official matches that they coached. They had to make way for Baxter as soon as his paperwork was sorted out.
“We must give credit to coach Arthur Zwane with his assistant Sheppy for bringing the team to the final,” Mosimane told reporters.
“And also credit to Stuart because I know he’s been behind the scenes and helping them. We have to have respect that,” he said.
“But as a local boy, as a township boy, I’m very happy for Arthur Zwane.
“For me, if it was my way, I think he would’ve gotten the gong again, and finished what he started,” added Mosimane.
