After obtaining a work visa. The former Bafana Bafana coach Baxter will be in the technical area to advise Amakhosi against the Red Devils.
Stuart Baxter, head coach of Kaizer Chiefs, believes his team will spring another surprise against Al Ahly in the Caf Champions League final on Saturday in Casablanca, Morocco.
After obtaining his work visa, the seasoned strategist will compete in the technical sector for the first time. Having trained the team since his return to Amakhosi, the Brit believes the Soweto heavyweights can win their first title.
Does Baxter talk about how feels now that he’s been permitted to sit on the bench?
“This is my first game on the bench, but I’ve been with the team for a few months, and working with the players [and being on the bench] in this game is amazing,” the 67-year-old said to the media on Friday.
“The players have put forth a lot of effort in their preparations.” Yes, there have been many obstacles, but the players have overcome them and astonished everyone by reaching the final.
“Do we have one more surprise left in us? We will see on the night.”
Baxter gave his thoughts on Pitso Mosimane
The former Bafana Bafana coach Baxter also praised Red Devils strategist Pitso Mosimane. He went on to explain how Amakhosi had prepared to deny the Egyptian powerhouse their ninth championship.
“I have a lot of respect for Pitso [Mosimane] as a coach, and we’ve had a lot of fascinating clashes, and I have to say that on the night, I don’t believe the experience we’ve accumulated in the past will impact the game,” Baxter added.
“Every game has several scenarios… In football, I’ve learned that things don’t always turn out the way you want them to. We have a solid strategy in place to assist us win the game.
Pitso [Mosimane] and Al Ahly have my respect, but for the evening, we have more than one option in the works to guarantee the game resolves itself. We certainly feel we can achieve a favorable outcome.”
The two teams previously played in the Caf Super Cup in 2002, with Al Ahly winning 4-1.
The reigning champions advanced to the final after defeating Esperance de Tunis 4-0 on aggregate. Chiefs advanced after defeating Wydad Casablanca 1-0 on aggregate.
