Egyptians giants Al Ahly are monitoring the situation of a Kaizer Chiefs target.
sources have indicated that coach Pitso Mosimane is looking to add Thabo Cele to his roster after completing the signing of former Brighton & Hove Albion attacker Percy Tau.
According to insiders, Cele’s camp and the club have entered talks after a collapsed deal in Europe.
Kaizer Chiefs have been keen on the services of the midfielder, who is currently a free agent.
Indications are that the Red Eagles have leapfrogged Amakhosi in the race for the player’s signature.
The Siya crew reported last month that interest in Cele spiked after his performance at the Tokyo Olympics and that options abroad were still being considered by his camp.
The KZN Academy graduate has been playing in Portugal for the last five years and was previously on the books of Cova Piedade before his contract ended in June.
If a move does materialise to the CAF Champions League winners, the 24-year-old could feature in the FIFA Club World Cup later this year.
The attacker has also previously been linked with Maritzburg United and AmaZulu.
